Updated The Cyrix contingent showed us a Linux system using a Cyrix chip which costs less than a thousand Deutschmarks today at its stand in Hall 13. The user interface looked negotiable, if a bit short of applications, but soon enough we're sure we will see Lotus applications for the platform. Red Zac's desktop, is configured with Yamaha Sound, ELSA, an ATI 8Mb RagePro graphics card, and an MII-300 Cyrix chip. It also includes StarOffice 5.0, comes with 64Mb of SDRAM, a 32-speed CD, mouse and 4.3Mb of hard drive space. Red Zac is also offering an ISDN option for its Hyrican box for a little extra. The Penguin on the cheap and cheerful promo literature looked a little surprised that it had been hoiked into the PC arena. Our Cyrix guide explained to us that resellers were afer the last buck of margin they could squeeze, and a Linux solution helped. Other items on the Cyrix stand included an LG Casseopiae box using a MediaGX chip. ®
