BT and Cisco have signed a letter of intent pledging to work more closely together in bringing IP services to market.

Under the letter of intent, BT and Cisco will cooperate in marketing and selling a range of new converged IP based services beginning this summer.

BT and Cisco will work more closely to develop and deploy IP services such as IP VPNs, IP Telephony and Broadband Teleworking in the European market. The initial focus of the firm's combined services push will be in the UK, Germany, Spain, Netherlands and Ireland.

Later this year BT and Cisco will focus on new service offerings in the areas of convergence, IP contact centres and storage area networks.

Pierre Danon, chief executive officer of BT Retail, said: "The combined reach of Cisco and BT will touch nearly all of the businesses and governments in this region."

Working with Cisco, BT has already deployed BT Transform - a new metro Ethernet and MPLS VPN-based business platform. The platform allows UK businesses to access a broad portfolio of voice, data and video services and applications such as e-learning, video-on-demand and integrated messaging. ®
