ATI has licensed Intel's Pentium M bus, paving the way for the company to offer what are effectively Centrino-compatible chipsets.
Neither company would reveal the terms of the deal, in particular whether ATI will have the right to use the Centrino brand name in association with products derived from the licence.
If not, it will simply offer Pentium M chipsets. With Intel promoting the Centrino name well ahead of the Pentium M, ATI may have difficulty competing directly with Intel's own 855 chipset family. ®
