Dixons ditches GameCube

'Clear the format'

Update Dixons is ditching the Nintendo GameCube from its stores, according to a leaked memo from PC World seen by the Mirror.

Said the memo: "Due to the continued poor sales on GameCube we are beginning to take our first steps to clear out the format." The clearing of shelves is being undertaken at all of Dixons' stores, including its other brands PC World and Currys.

And in a bid to ditch the GameCube pronto, Dixons is cutting the cost of the games console as well.

However, in a statement just received from Nintendo, the Japanese games specialist insists that its relationship with the high street electrical retailer is still sound.

Said Nintendo: "Nintendo is continuing to actively trade with Dixons."

It continued: "Nintendo GameCube is currently available in 4,500 stockists across the UK including Comet, HMV, Toys R Us, GAME, Virgin Megastore, Argos, and Woolworths. The current Nintendo GameCube price promotions are retailer initiatives." ®
