Nominet UK has won an interim injunction order in the High Court against Domain Registrar Services Limited (DRS), banning the company from using the Nominet name and logo.

The legal action for trademark infringement and passing off was taken by Nominet following complaints about DRS' sales tactics.

The injunction also applies to Scott Denny, a director of DRS, and another company called UK Names Limited.

The injunction, secured last Friday, prevents the defendants from using the Nominet name and logo to flog domain names. It also prevents them from passing themselves off as being connected with Nominet.

In a statement Nominet UK's MD, Lesley Cowley, said: "We take any misrepresentation of the Nominet name and logo very seriously indeed and this case serves as a strong warning that we will refuse to allow people to get away with it.

"None of these defendants had any right or authority to use the Nominet name and we see this interim injunction order as the first legal step towards ensuring they are unable to do so again in the future." ®
