Compuserve not for the chop – AOL UK

Jobs cuts sparks speculation

AOL UK has denied it is to close CompuServe following last week's news that the Internet company is set to axe 50 jobs.

The Internet company last week said that it planned to wind down its subscription-free ISP Netscape Online, while insisting that CompuServe would continue to operate.

However, insiders told The Register that CompuServe is to be shut down along with Netscape Online. As many as 20 people currently work on the CompuServe brand. This will be slashed to just two, once AOL UK completes its restructuring.

However, Matt Peacock of AOL UK "categorically denies" that CompuServe is for the chop. "CompuServe is a subscription-based service that is fundamentally sound and enjoys strong customer loyalty," he said.

Compuserve is geared towards business users and professionals. ®
