LineOne, LibertySurf and WorldOnline are to be buried next week as Britain's biggest Italian ISP attempts to unite its disparate parts under the Tiscali brand.
An announcement confirming the final demise of these ISP brands is due either later today or the beginning of next week, according to a Tiscali spokeswoman.
It's been known for some time that Tiscali would ditch the brand names of its recently acquired ISPs enabling it to operate under one company name. It was just a question of when.
Which leaves two interesting areas on which to ponder. First, do we lament the loss of LineOne, WorldOnline and LibertySurf - perhaps shed a few tears as the three are lowered into the cold ground?
The answer is "no". Frankly, it's probably a blessing they're on their way. If they are remembered, it'll be for all the wrong reasons.
The trickier question concerns the image of Tiscali. What exactly does the Tiscali brand stand for?
El Reg's experience of the company so far is of an outfit that is singularly uncooperative. And that's probably the nicest thing we can say.
We await with interest to see how the Tiscali "image" will develop. ®
