Dixons confirms Kalms retirement

Becomes President in Sept 2002

Dixons has confirmed that Sir Stanley Kalms will retire as executive chairman of the business at the company's AGM in September 2002.

He will then be made El Presidente of the company - a non-executive position. He'll be two months short of his 71st birthday.

Press speculation has it that he'll go earlier if headhunters are quick to find a successor. His replacement will only work part time.

Kalms reckons his best ever deal was buying Currys in the 80s which got the company "into white goods in a big way". And selling its own warranties, no doubt. ®
