Quantum Corp lowers sights on HDD shortage

Now back on ramp

Oh, dear. The profit warnings from component makers are tumbling out thick and fast, with Quantum Corporation's HDD unit the latest despatch from the battlefield.

However, Quantum is a profit warning with a twist - the company is not blaming sluggish demand for the shortfall, but a 'specific component availability issue which impacted the production ramps of (its)new 20GB per platter desktop product lines'.

The business, soon to be owned by Maxtor, now expects Q3 revenues to range between $725 million and $750 million, on total shipments of between seven million and 7.5 million units.

Quantum says it now has adequate component supply and has resumed resumed its ramp of these product lines. ®
