Attractive FRIACO finds another beau

Has someone got their beer goggles on?

Another telco has come out of the woodwork and signed up to BT's unmetered wholesale Net access product, FRIACO.

Viatel - a carrier's carrier - said that it would soon offer flat-rate dial-up access to Internet service providers (ISPs) in the UK.

This follows last month's announcement by Worldcom that it had signed up to FRIACO (Flat Rate Internet Access Call Origination).

However, details about the new wholesale service, called ISP Dial, are still sketchy.

For instance, it's not known whether Viatel has signed up to FRIACO, or its sequel, FRIACO Hybrid, a cross-dressing, mixed up kinda thang that is neither metered nor unmetered but somewhere in the middle.

More importantly, there is no indication of how much the service will cost.

In a statement, Bill Murphy, President Viatel, Inc, said: "Internet users are increasingly demanding flat rate offers and we are providing ISPs with the ability to meet those requirements, control their costs and ultimately improve their bottom lines.

"An unmetered dial-up access offering meets end-customer needs and eliminates the commercial risk to the ISP associated with such an offering," he said.

Yeah , right Bill - tell us something we don't know. ®
