In our story of a few weeks back in which we detailed our SETI competition results, we mentioned how a couple of our machines fared:

"Our reference Katmai 500 box (128MB RAM) is currently averaging 8 hours 10 minutes, while a Coppermine 800 (256MB RAM) is chomping through the data in an average seven hours."

Now we have our shiny new Pentium III 933 in an Intel VC820 mobo with 256MB of PC700 Rambus up and running, we thought some of you [not you, obviously, Mikey] might be interested to hear how it was faring.

The current average for a SETI unit is 5 hours 57 minutes, which, we have to admit, is a rather impressive gain over the 800.
