UK shop fined £1,000 for selling Duke Nukem to kid

Trading standards officers operated sting on Computer Exchange

UK trading standards officers have started to take tough action against shops selling adult rated computer games to children, it has emerged. The Harrow tradings standards office last week won a victory against a local Computer Exchange shop after it sold a copy of £30 popular game Duke Nukem to a 13-year old schoolboy. Computer Exchange was fined £1,000 by Harrow magistrates and also made to pay £467 after the local trading standards office arranged a "sting" operation in which the 13-year old and the 11-year old made visits to the shop to buy the games. Computer games are classified by the British Board of Film Classification, and the shop was charged under the Video Recording Act of 1984. Computer Exchange shops operate in many high streets throughout the country. As the name suggests, they act as a trade-in and reseller operation for second hand computer hardware and software. ®
