Dick Parsons named as new AOL TW chairman
Parsons knows he faces a challenge
Dick Parsons - AOL Time Warner chief exec - has been named chairman of the giant media and Internet company.
He will replace Steve Case, who announced his decision to quit earlier this week.
The appointment - backed unanimously by the board of directors - becomes effective on May 16 when Mr Case steps down.
In a statement Mr Parsons acknowledged that he faced "challenges facing our company and the industries in which we operate" but added that he would focus on increasing value for customers and shareholders.
This week's musical chairs at the top of AOL TW has prompted industry watchers to speculate further about the future of the £111bn merger.
Some claim Mr Case's departure could pave the way for the merger to be un-merged and for AOL to be spun off. ®
