Memory blaggers stoop to kidnap

Masked robbers kidnapped a driver and his van during a robbery of £55,000 worth of memory modules.

The raiders, all sporting balaclavas, used their vehicles to box in an Interlink courier van as it left a Swindon business park.

The van was making a collection from memory distributor Memory Plus - its last pick up of the day. Only the parcels containing memory were stolen.

The driver was later discovered on a Slough golf course. He was described as being extremely shaken. The van was found near by.

The robbery happened just after 6pm on Friday June 23.

The memory bandits are expected to be disappointed with their haul. The packages contained small individual orders for Memory Plus’ dealers. Dave Flack, group marketing director of Memory Corporation, Memory Plus’ parent, said the parcels contained such a variety of memory capacities it would make it difficult to sell on.

“I’m sure the thieves were expecting large volumes of one kind of memory product and not such a mixture of SIMMS and DIMMS,” he said. “They’ll have to test everything to find out what they’ve got.”

The memory modules and their packaging is branded Discovery.
