Trading Standards seizes fake Nokia gear

No dodgy batteries this time though

Trading Standards officers raided premises in Camden, London, last week seizing a "substantial number" of fake Nokia-branded mobile phone accessories.

Officers discovered hundreds of counterfeit Nokia-branded PPH-1 car kits from a wholesaler and suspected importer in Camden.

No fake batteries were found as part of the haul.

In a statement, Nokia spokesman Mark Squires said: "We take cases of counterfeit goods very seriously. These most recent raids are the result of our...commitment to reducing the amount of counterfeit products reaching the high street and in doing so protecting our customers from sub-standard and, in some cases, dangerous goods."

After a spate of recent reports of exploding phones - caused by unsafe fake batteries - Nokia is keen to show that it's doing its part to stamp out fraud.

Nokia has been working with Trading Standards officers and HM Customs & Excise to tackle the problem.

And over the last six months, more than 170,000 counterfeit items have been seized, including batteries, chargers, covers and other accessories.

Nokia said it will take further action against the individuals and companies involved. ®
