Lee Epting and her new recruits at Nokia continue to shake up the company's developer program, and yesterday introduced a raft of sweeteners in the form of a new Club Forum Pro scheme.
It's no longer a Nordic summer camp for dabblers. For €3000, developers can expect early NDA access to betas and prototypes, business development advice including promotional opportunities and training and support. If you're a developer, Forum Nokia will even help write your press release.
Forum Nokia claims a million member developers, but sorting the wheat from the chaff has not been a priority until now.
Epting, who previous ran developer programs for Palm and Handspring, says that software buyers are currently opening a catalog and finding "twenty Tetrises"; they are looking for more focus. She expects to sign 200 Pro members in the next few months. The Forum Nokia Community without the premium goodies remains open to all and free, although developers can "step up" to gain access on a monthly basis.
Nokia thinks that enterprises are ripe for the picking. Large corporate customers who have bought PDAs on an ad hoc or semi-formal basis also buy SIM cards by the thousand, so Nokia sees a reasonable proposition consolidating the two. ®
