BTo tops Oftel complaints league table

Should do better

Oftel receives three times more complaints about BTopenworld than any other ISP, according to official stats published today.

The telecoms regulator receives one complaint per thousand BTo customers, compared with just one complaint per 3,000 customers from the likes of Demon and NTL.

Although soon-to-be-scrapped BT Openworld is still head and shoulders above the industry on complaints, these latest figures are an improvement on the last time the regulator carried out this little exercise.

In all, between October 1 2002 and March 31 2003, Oftel received 5,235 complaints about ISPs - down on the 6,800 complaints it received in the previous six months.

Although this improvement was welcomed by Oftel boss, David Edmonds, he believes more can be done.

"I would like to see companies doing more towards improving their customer relations, so fewer consumers contact Oftel with queries or complaints," he said.

Oftel handles around 100,000 complaints a year from hacked-off customers, most of which concern fixed line and mobile telco services. ®
