Blueyonder to launch new games site

That's what its broadband punters want

Blueyonder is to launch a new broadband games and entertainment site in September in a bid to show-off the potential for hi-speed Net services.

Exact details of the site remain under wraps but online games playing will feature heavily.

It's understood Blueyonder - the broadband service from cableco Telewest - has poached half a dozen Wireplay staff made redundant from Gameplay earlier this year to help set up the service.

A spokesman for Blueyonder confirmed that the new site would be up and running in a couple of weeks. He added: "It's a service for gamers, by gamers."

Films, gigs and music will also feature heavily in the new offering.

Flextech, Telewest's content division, is understood to be providing content for the new site.

According to Blueyonder these content areas are crucial for driving the growth of broadband.

Most of the content will be exclusive to Blueyonder subscribers although it's understood some will be available to other broadband users. ®
