Effort to show Tim McVeigh dying on line

It was only a matter of time

On-line funhouse Entertainment Network has filed suit in US District Court for the Southern District of Indiana seeking permission to Web-cast the execution of convicted bomber Timothy McVeigh live, the company says.

"The objective of Entertainment Network is to be known as one of the world's most inventive developers of internet content," a company blurb proudly chirps.

Unfortunately, the US Bureau of Prisons rejected ENI's request to Web-cast the execution, so the suit calls for an injunction preventing the Bureau from enforcing its decision, a company press release explains.

The company is arguing that the decision to deny its request is unconstitutional because "the people have a right to oversee the implementation of justice."

Yeah, right. We know precisely why most people will wish to see it, and it has a whole lot more to do with urges to hoot and jeer and taunt than with any sober discharging of civil responsibilities.

Ultimate fighting, Toughman, American Gladiators -- we just knew pay-per-view executions were next. ®
