Banned Mitnick trinket on Dutchbid.com

Hacker legend Kevin Mitnick's prison ID card has finally found a home on auction site Dutchbid.com after being yanked by socially-conscious competitors eBay, Yahoo! and Amazon, who judiciously draw the line at Nazi memorabilia.

eBay had gone so far as to characterise Mitnick as a "violent felon" in justifying its decision to remove the item, perhaps over some confusion between the terms 'hacker' and 'axe murderer'. They later corrected this by citing regulations forbidding traffic in ID cards.

"It baffles me that these sites can censor Kevin Mitnick memorabilia, and then allows Nazi memorabilia to be sold. Apparently, promoting hate group material is within the bounds of good community standards. God forbid we allow a former computer hacker to sell his prison ID card," the company quotes Mitnick as saying.

"Kevin Mitnick is the world's most famous hacker and now is your chance to own this one of a kind memorabilia," Dutchbid proudly says.

The item has attracted two bids thus far and stands at $1400. An autographed 'Free Kevin' bumper sticker will sweeten the pot for the eventual proud owner. ®
