"Rock'n'roll will never die. It is, however, being reborn." So says Apple's new music service, and what better way to burn all those classic albums you've downloaded - we won't say where (ahem) - by burning them onto CD-Rs that look the part.

Yes, Verbatim has just extended its Digital Vinyl series - CDs overprinted with a grooved vinyl record texture, complete with centre label - by boosting the capacity to 80 minutes (700MB), shipping them in a 50-disc spindle pack and offering a label area that can be directly printed on using an inkjet CD printer, such as Epson's Stylus Photo 950 or the Seiko CDP-2500

Verbatim knows its target market. It talks about professional uses and promotional products, but it's really chasing user who want to "convert old, analog LP records to premium-quality digital media that won't degrade or lose sound fidelity every time the discs are played". Verbatim backs that claim with a lifetime warranty.

The discs will be available later this month for $49.99. As yet, Digital Vinyl is not available in Europe, according to Verbatim's European web site. ®
