ATI ships Radeon 9800 Pro; HP launches new lasers, cuts prices

ATI will ship it latest TV-on-a-PC card, the TV Wonder Pro, in the Spring, the company said today. The $69 TV tuner card joins the $49 TV Wonder VE. Both provide a 125-channel TV tuner - stereo in the Pro's case - digital VCR functionality, GemStar GuidePlus schedule support, and can be used to provide picture-in-picture viewing when paired with one of ATI's All-in-Wonder cards. Both are also available with remote controller editions, which adds $30 to the price.

ATI also announced today that is has started shipping its Radeon 9800 Pro graphics chip. ATI will offer the chip on two boards, with 128MB and 256MB of DDR video RAM, respectively.

The DirectX 9 part offers eight parallel rendering pipelines and four parallel geometry engines, a 256-bit memory interface, AGP 8x support, and a screen resolution of p to 2048x1536 in 32-bit colour.

Printers

HP has extended its LaserJet desktop line with two new series, the 1300 and 2300.

Starting at $399, the 1300 series churns out multi-copy pages at up to 20ppm, and single-print pages in less than eight seconds. Two models are available, one with networking built in and one intended for direct-connect use.

The LaserJet 2300 series comprises six models with a print speed of 20-25ppm, depending on which model you choose, and single-page output in under ten seconds. The output resolution is 1,200dpi. Prices start at $549.



HP has also introduced a six-colour printer aimed at design professionals. The DesignJet 120 is a 2400dpi dye-sublimation device that provides a standard paper tray plus a 24in-wide paper manual feed. HP offers an optional roll-feed capable of handing 24in x 50ft uncut media.



The printer supports HP's own Raster Image Processor (RIP), but can work with a number of third-party software RIPs. Connectivity is provided through parallel and USB ports. A networked version, the DesignJet 120nr contains a built-in Ethernet card.

Both models ship with Windows and Mac OS X drivers. The standard model costs an "affordable" $1295; the 120nr is priced at $1895.



Additionally, HP is cutting prices across a number of its US inkjet and laser ranges. Specifically, the HP Business Inkjet 2230 is reduced from $299 to $199, the LaserJet 1000 is reduced from $249 to $199, and all the LaserJet 4200 series printers are now $100 cheaper. ®
