Will this notebook survive if I jump up and down on it?

Don't try this at home

Computer hardware testing is certainly not for wimps in the Czech Republic, land of Semtex and some the best beers in the world.

Whwn a top exec of Gericom distribution told hardware site Notebooky.cz that they might want to test an army standardcompliant notebook submitted for review by "dropping it gently off a table", they took him at his word. Then they went further still.

"Since the notebook survived the initial gentle drop from half a yard, the lust to try more grew. And since I had one of the top executives of the publisher holding the camera and putting pressure on me to go further we did," Bo Hyanek, Editor-in-Chief of Notebooky.cz, told us.

"The notebook survived being docked under the weight of the monitor, it fared well after the half a yard and also after the full yard drop off the table. After laying and falling, we tried gliding.

"Free fall combined with sliding on the table and further down was looking to us like the ultimate test," he added.

That did for the plastic holders of the display cover but still Notebooky.cz pressed on, with Hyanek deciding to stand on the (by now) long suffering notebook.

Enough of this madness. Pictures of Notebooky.cz's destruction testing can be found here, and video clips can be downloaded here.

Those who read Czech will be able to see the lads from Notebooky.cz take their work seriously. A full-scale notebook review, including Sandra and 3D Mark benchmarks, follows the crews initial burn-in (or should that be drop down?) testing. ®
