Tiny does cellphones

Wants more web sales

As expected, Tiny is to add pre-pay mobile phones and their accessories to its existing catalogue of computers and peripherals.

It will offer three handsets in showroom stores and a fuller range of ten phones via its website. It will also supply a range of accessories including cameras, MP3 players, as well as ring tones and logos.

The new goods will be available from the 23rd of November. Two initial offers include an Ericsson 2628 for £39.99 and a Trium Mars for £49.99.

The added focus on its website is part of the company's plan to bulk up its online sales. It is predicting a 75 per cent increase over the Christmas period for its Internet channel, hingeing around a five per cent discount on all PCs sold via the site.

A visit to the site confirms this with a pop-up 'online discount' window. However, the advertisement says the offer will end today, which is strange because the press release was only issued yesterday.

The predicted increase will see the company selling around 8 per cent of its kit online, up from the existing 5 per cent.

Andrew Walwyn, Tiny's MD, has a history in the mobile phone market, doing time at Carphone Warehouse and then DX communications before overseeing its sale to BT.

The company branched out considerably into consumer electronics this year. Unfortunately, this has not been as successful as hoped, selling less then 5,000 of its Takami home entertainment centres since its introduction in March. It is expected to release reworked systems, Takami 2, early next year. ®
