Red or dead? The China argy-bargy goes on

Nothing like a good cultural conflict to get the juices flowing

[We wrote a humorous piece about the Chinese government shutting down a dissident Web site. That started some rumbling. We wrote another about how China approached the Internet and the flames began and the crazies started marching. Incidentally, The Reg team got on the wrong end of a Chinaman last night. Two sheets to the wind, he took exception to us taking pictures (Linda's leaving drinks) and demanded to know why we were taking pictures of him. He was pretty angry about it. Lester wanted to lump him, Mike reckoned there was a story in it and Lucy calmed him down by buying him a half of Guinness. And the pub was packed with the bobbies from West End Central]

Flame of the Week Register is dull!
Chinese government shuts down dissident site

I believe I am one of the many who have sent this type of letter to you about our Chinese connection who sent his extremely drab and snoozing letter to you in opposition of your "Chinese government shuts down dissident site" article. All I can see is that the censorship of China's wonderful "Home Office" or as us dissident types call it, "Home Oppress", have censored humour in the populous as well.

Censored to the point that he had no understanding of it. I guess his government has done so much censorship that they don't know that in the US, we have political humorists running around in the public blatantly expressing their hatred for our government without fear of oppression/death. As I remember, there are those types in the UK as well.

So, I would like to suggest a humour article about "China Censoring Censorship" or a "Total Outright Ban of Humor in China". It would fit this base of all boring messages that came from this "Anti-Humor".

Try to open up a business in China as a Westerner or spend a couple of months there it won't take you long to build up enough stories to shoot down any criticism supporting the country.

Or on your own you can find any number of business stories citing good faith business ventures that went bad because the technology was stolen, a duplicate factory was built next door and all the employees moved, taxes imposed at 60% etc. etc. etc.

Compare immigration policies between UK, Aust, US and China.

Try to buy land or a house.

No matter what the issue you will generally find that the worst of say the UK's policies and practices are better than the best of China, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Malaysia's policies and practices towards any foreigners. This is not racism or prejudice it is simple fact.
