Intel launches three P4s, Springdale

Intel today launched three new Pentium 4 processors and three Springdale chipsets, to take hyperthreading (HT) into the corporate PC mainstream.

The new P4s come in 2.4GHz, 2,GHz and 2.8GHz flavours and deliver 25 per cent better performance than non HT equivalents, Intel says. In 1,000-unit quantities, they cost $178, $218 and $278 respectively.

Now to the Springdale 865 chipsets. All support HT, all incorporate interfaces for AGP8X, USB 2.0 and Serial ATA.

The 865G supports supports 800, 533, and 400 MHz system buses and dual channel DDR400/333/266. It also has what Intel dubs a new generation of integrated graphics - "Intel Extreme Graphics 2. And it's the first chipset to join Intel's new Stable Image Platform Program. In other words, no new configurations will be slipped out for at least 12 months, enabling IT departments to bring a little predictability into their working day. In 1,000-unit quantities, the 845$44 with integrated software RAID and $41 without RAID.

The 865PE chipset supports 800, 533, and 400 MHz system buses, dual channel DDR400/333/266, and works with discrete graphics components. In 1,000-unit quantities, it costs $39 with integrated software RAID and $36 without RAID.

The 865P supports both 533 and 400 MHz system buses and DDR333/266. In 1,000-unit quantities, it’s priced at $36 with integrated software RAID and $33 without RAID. ®
