DRAM refuses to be tickled into submission in June
Chip vendors sweat it out
DRAM memory chip prices refused to pick up in the past month, with 128MB prices bobbing around the $3.50 mark.
The 30-day rolling average contract price of 128MB DRAMS for May 17 to June 15 dropped 6.9 per cent to $3.86 in North America, according to figures from ICIS-Lor, via Asiabiztech.
In Europe prices fell 7.1 per cent to $3.35, while in Asia DRAM prices were down three per cent at $3.68.
Memory module prices on the spot market dropped to $21.67 in North America, $26.61 in Europe and $22.14 in Asia. This represented a price fall of 8.9 per cent, 5.1 per cent and 5.3 per cent respectively.
Earlier this week Korean semiconductor manufacturer Hynix warned the current downturn in the IT economy may force it to cut production. ®
