AMD shipping 1.5GHz Athlons as 1GHz chips?

Overclockers reckon so

AMD may have already begun shipping 1.5GHz T'Bird Athlons - under wraps.

Apparently, Athlons capable of reaching that speed are currently going out under 1GHz or 1.33GHz labels, which have been picked up by intrepid overclockers and pushed to the higher performance levels.

One UK overclocker told us: "Athlons exceeding 1.5GHz have been available for a few weeks now, although you have to know the batch code (AXIA) of the chips in order to get the ones capable of such speeds."

"Since AMD hasn't publicised the 'overclockability' of the AXIA chips, people can make absolute killings when they pick up 1GHz AXIA's that hit 1.5GHz with ease (and standard cooling, we're not talking water here)."

"Other batches are also rumoured to be available. There's mention of AZIA's but I'm not sure what speeds these will hit," he says. Anyone know? ®
