A British dotcom is auctioning its collection of floral URLs after turning down an offer of £3 million for them last year.

Unfortunately, at this stage it's not exactly clear what any potential bidder will get for their money.

In a statement Peter Calvert, MD of Flowers Direct, said he was taking the action because the business needed new management and funding for the company to reach its "true potential".

Said Calvert: "We are confident that... bids made by interested parties will be attracting seven figure sums that will allow others to take the company forward. This is a serious opportunity for those interested in the potentials of a new
exciting European wide floral and gifting business."

So is he flogging the business as well or just the URLs? And if he flogs the URLs on their own to fund the rest of his business, what happens to the existing business?

Unfortunately, Calvert was unable to come to the phone when we called. Perhaps he was making up a wreath or something.

The auction of twelve URLs including flowersdirect.co.uk on QXL closes on March 14. It has already received an initial bid of £750,000. ®
