Campaigners reject naked DSL protest

Campaigners in Kent trying to get BT to upgrade their area to DSL have rejected plans to hold a naked demonstration at their local telephone exchange.

That was just one of the suggestions put to Steve Boxley, who is trying to drum up support for broadband in the commuter town of Edenbridge.

Asked whether he and his fellow campaigners would consider stripping off for the cause Steve told The Register: "Definitely not."

Although he's decided not to press ahead with this suggestion, he is keen for people to get involved in any way they can to show BT that there is demand for DSL in the area.

He's currently lobbying his local MP, Sir John Stanley, who it's hoped will lend his support to the campaign.

He's also trying to get his local council on side in a bid to garner support from local businesses.

As well as setting up the Web site GetEdenbridgeADSL.co.uk he's also distributing leaflets to publicise his cause.

But Steve is also aware that the task will not be easy. He's just heard from BT that Edenbridge would need at least 400 people to sign up for broadband before the telco will DSL-enable the exchange.

Said Steve: "We'll just have to wait and see what happens." ®
