Aramiska opens UK broadband satellite kimono

Touting for small businesses

Dutch-based Aramiska is the latest company to announce its pricing for broadband over satellite services.

Launching in the UK today, the company said its satellite-based broadband business packages for SMEs start at £99 per month. Up-front installation and set-up fees cost from around £500.

The outfit - backed by cash from venture capitalist Whitney & Co - has 20 users currently trialling the service.

It is also receiving 100 enquiries a week from businesses looking to embrace broadband and expects to attract 3,000 customers in its first year.

Aramiska's CEO, Philippe Bodart, is confident that the prices announced today will help dispel any ideas broadband satellite is too expensive for UK SMEs.

Said Mr Bodart: "We're introducing our new Aramiska service at an exceptionally competitive price, and for that we're offering a service that competes directly with terrestrial solutions both in terms of functionality, performance and pricing."

Earlier this month Bridge Broadband - part of IT and communications outfit Flexia Plc - launched its broadband over satellite service.

There are no up-front charges but prices start from £159 per month, which includes the cost of installation and maintenance.

BTopenworld also published details of its satellite broadband service with subscription starting at £69.99 a month and a one-off connection charge of £899.

And Beam Solutions, which recently acquired the satellite business from OnStar Europe (the information, entertainment and communications arm of General Motors Europe) has announced its tariffs.

It's monthly subscription starts from £109.99 a month with a connection fee of £249.99 and an installation fee of £150.

All prices exclude VAT.

Tiscali - which was due to introduce a satellite-based broadband service in the UK this year - has delayed the roll-out until next year. ®
