IBM preps first Itanium workstation

Collisions, explosions or gravity

IBM is claiming the first Itanium-powered workstation to market with the launch of the M Pro Intellistation.

Or maybe it's the Z Pro.. IBM contradicts itself in the press launch invite, helpfully posted on Sourcewire. First it refers at to the new Xeon-powered Z Pro, and then, it boasts of "exciting possibilities for animations such as collisions, explosions or gravity, which can be more easily monitored due to the power of the (Z Pro's) Itanium processor".

Out on May 10, the Itanium MorZ Pro has gone out already to selected customers and applications in an "early ship programme".

IBM is claiming a "3.2x increase in system memory performance and 40 per cent graphics improvement" for its new workstation (the Itanium one). We'll tell you more next week. ®
