Dell jumps gun on 1.3GHz Pentium 4

A mistake, or is Intel pushing harder?

Updated The Dell Corporation has already started selling Pentium 4s running at 1.3GHz, its Web site is suggesting.

The 1.3GHz Pentium 4 is, according to Intel roadmaps, not yet available, but at this page, the item is already listed as part of the Dimension range.

It may be a mistake, in which case we would expect Dell to disappear the URL real soon now.

But, on the other hand, Dell is the only top tier vendor so far not to succumb to AMD blandishments, so perhaps it is getting preferential treatment for that reason.

Meanwhile, an Australian reader tells us that Dell has taken a big splash in The Australian newspaper, advertising the 1.3GHz Pentium 4, with 128Mb of RDRAM and other bells and whistles at A$2,799, which is just over one thousand UK pounds. ®
