Dell launches super-powerful Inspiron notebook

Dell has launched a super-powered Inspiron notebook, a machine it reckons surpasses many desktops.

The Inspiron 8000 is aimed at gamers or multimedia consumers, and is its first notebook to sport both DVD and CD-RW drives installed at the same time.

Prices start at $1,899 for a model based on a 600MHz chip Intel Celeron chip, with 5GB hard drive, 64MB SDRAM, 8MB of video memory, 14.1-inch SXGA+ display and running on Windows ME. Weighing in at just under eight pounds, higher end models come with a 850MHz PIII chip, up to 32GB hard drive, 32MB of video memory, and a 15-inch display which boasts resolutions in line with some 17-inch and 19-inch monitors.

The notebooks can be ordered from today, with a choice of royal purple, golden yellow, Tahoe blue, storm grey and midnight grey panels.
