First Win ME bug discovered?

Blimey, it's not even in the shops yet

Published Thursday 31st August 2000 15:30 GMT

Much as we like Windows ME, we've discovered a rather annoying, erm, "feature" of the new OS. We've been running ME (retail build 3000) on three different machines (PIII 500MHz and two different PIII 1GHz boxes) for some time now and all of them exhibit the same annoying trait.

Around 75 per cent of the time, our ME boxes display the 'Windows was not properly shut down' dialogue when starting from cold, even though they had definitely been previously correctly shut down. This then entails a tiresome wait for Scandisk to check things out before the OS is ready for use.

Could it be that the commendable speed with which ME boots and closes down is maybe a little too fast for comfort, leaving the systems dazed and confused? ®
