Dotcoms burn up cash less quickly

But book the crematorium anyway

Heavyweight business mag Barron's has published its second Dotcom survival league table, based on how much cash ebusinesses have and how long it will last them.

Out of 227 companies surveyed, just nine had positive cash flows reports the Guardian. The entire league have a combined life span of 13 years.

Of the big names listed, Barron's calculates Amazon will burn up its cash reserves in 35 months, Ask Jeeves has got 23 months before a full cremation, and CD Now is given a month.

The good news is that dotcoms aren't burning their cash as fast as they used to. They devoured $1.15 billion in Q1, a drop of 24 per cent from Q4 1999.

Merrill Lynch Internet strategist Henry Blodget said the Barron's list is "a good back of the envelope measure".

Bluefly, a discount clothing company, was given about three days - which we reckon gives them until tomorrow. ®
