This is not the sound of your ship coming in, but if you're sick of your current job as a Ruby on Rails developer, Oracle sysadmin, HPC guru or security whipping-boy, why not try your hand at the arts?
The Walker Art Centre in Minneapolis is looking for a coordinator for its “Internet Cat Video Festival”, which has been running since 2012.
Last year's festival was held in Oakland, CA.
Slate remarks the world that the 2012 top prize in the festival was taken by Henri the Existential Cat, which has raked up more than eight million YouTube hits in a piece critically acclaimed as "a mildly funny way to spend a couple of minutes", "beats working, mate", and "awwww cute and look at the funny captions!".
Alas, if you're in a job that's better paid than pizza delivery, you might find yourself a little short-funded, since it's only a part-time role of seven to 15 hours per week at the start of work to 20 to 30 hours a week approaching the festival. The going rate for an Internet Cat Video Festival coordinator is a princely $16 per hour.
For that, you have to be “a dynamic, well organized and capable individual to coordinate and support production and logistics for this amazing event”.
Alert readers will at least be pleased that the Walker Art Centre isn't demanding that its coordinator be “awesome”, “amazing”, “brilliant”, or “seeking exposure with an outstanding online venture (you will not be paid)”. Thank heavens for small, soft-pawed mercies. ®
