Liberty Global reportedly in early talks with Intel

US media mogul John Malone, whose cable company owns Virgin Media, is reportedly talking with Intel about the possibility of scooping up the chipmaker's pay-TV service.
According to Bloomberg, which cites three people with knowledge of the situation, the confab is at an early stage and could yet turn to dust.
Sources declined to comment on what price was being floated for any potential acquisition of Intel's pay-TV biz, which is under development.
Another insider told the news wire that Malone would use Chipzilla's system in Europe rather than in the US.
Liberty Global has, in the past year, been growing its European operation. It gulped a sizeable profit loss of $830m in its most recent quarter, as the cost of ownership of Virgin Media and general expansion on this side of the Atlantic kicked in.
Malone's outfit and Intel declined to comment on this story. ®
