Yahoo! Mail's redesign has not gone over well with users, who are miffed at the Purple Palace's axing of features like tabs and changing how folders work.

Yahoo! has been busily redesigning a number of its products, as well as tilting its exclamation mark a whimsical nine degrees as part of a logo revamp – much to the annoyance of users, who have taken to its forums in the thousands to moan about the differences.

The top gripe on the "Tell us what you think about Yahoo! Mail" forum is the axing of the tabs feature, which opened messages out of the inbox in a new tab. Over 31,000 users have voted to "please bring back tabs", complaining that the feature was a large part of why users were on Yahoo! Mail and not Gmail.

"Why did you have to sacrifice [tabs] because of your remodelling or modernisation?" one user moaned. "At least give us the option in the settings to enable tabs if we want them. All my friends are on gmail and they're always asking why I am still using yahoo; well, tabs were the main reason."

As well as being miffed at altered features, users were also carping about how the changes have slowed the service.

"The redesign of Yahoo mail is terrible," said one Yahoo-er. "Nothing works properly. Please bring back tabs and put it back to how it was. Everything was easily accessible and clear. Now it is a mess, making simple tasks like managing folders and filing a nightmare."

"Did ANYONE praise the new yahoo email client?" another asked.

"My emails are now sent with no formatting and look like a disaster. I can't find some emails in my inbox unless I use the ****** fully functioning version (which seems to cater to teenagers who won't care if it works, as much as they care if it's cool enough to be seen with). A step backwards." ®
