Cupertino sets conference date for 10 June - tickets on sale tomorrow
WWDC Tickets for the annual Apple Worldwide Developers Conference will go on sale tomorrow, offering fanbois the chance to ogle some of Steve Job's final creations.
Launched with a flash new logo resembling a day-glo jelly mould, the event will showcase the work that has been going on in Cupertino over the past year. Apple has announced the conference dates as 10-14 June.
Reports (including our own) recently suggested that Steve Jobs had a hand in the design of product ranges stretching all the way up to iPhone 6.
Apple-watchers are hoping to see the 6, or at least the iPhone 5S, in action at the WWDC, along with iOS 7 and perhaps a cheaper version of the smartphone. Some optimists are predicting the arrival of OSXI, or another big-cat-inspired follow-up to Mountain Lion.
“We look forward to gathering at WWDC 2013 with the incredible community of iOS and OS X developers,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing. “Our developers have had the most prolific and profitable year ever, and we’re excited to show them the latest advances in software technologies and developer tools to help them create innovative new apps. We can’t wait to get new versions of iOS and OS X into their hands at WWDC.”
Apple has not fared well in the months since Jobs shuffled off this mortal coil, piling pressure on Tim Cook to deliver a bravura performance at this year's WWDC.
He promised "amazing new hardware, software, and services" yesterday when delivering the fruity firm's quarterly results. But this piece of good news could not mask the fact that Apple's growth appears to be slowing, with stock prices nosediving and profit growth at its lowest point for a decade. Cupertino raked in $9.5bn (£6.2bn) in the first quarter of 2013, down from $11.6bn during the same period last year.
The five-day-long conference will allow iOS and OSX developers to meet one another and "create incredible new apps with innovative features". More than 1,000 Apple engineers will be on hand to show off the new technologies, while the annual Apple Design Awards will recognise the world's best app developers.
Online chatter has focused on Apple's new logo, a wobbly, headache-inducing riot of colour which Cult of Mac suggested could either indicate a new aesthetic for iOS 7, some sort of change to Airplay or the belated development of inter-app communication on iDevices.
Tickets for this year’s WWDC go on sale on Thursday, 25 April at 10am Pacific (13.00 Eastern, 18.00 British Standard Time). ®
