Yahoo! and Apple are reportedly in secret talks to take their relationship to the next level with more iThing integration.

Industry sources muttered to the Wall Street Journal that the two tech firms have been chatting about how Yahoo! gear could be more prominent on iPhones and iPads.

The pair already have some integration going on: Yahoo! finance and weather apps come preloaded on Jesus mobes and some Yahoo! data is fed to Apple's voice-controlled search engine Siri.

But that's apparently not enough for the companies, which are looking at new deals for Yahoo! News and other purple-branded stuff to come preloaded or through Siri.

Yahoo! is also looking into providing its search results to Apple so the fruity firm can thumb its nose at Android-owning rival Google, the current default search engine on iDevices. That idea may be a bit difficult due to Yahoo!'s deal with Microsoft: the Windows giant's Bing system powers the web firm's search service.

Cozying up to Apple would be directly in line with Yahoo! chief Marissa Mayer's ongoing battle to make the firm a bigger player in the mobile market, while giving Cupertino a non-Google option for a number of mobile apps and services.

Yahoo! had not responded to requests for comment at the time of publication. Apple did not wish to comment. ®
