MuleSoft kicks out app integration platform

Births enterprise service bus suite, slurps VC cash

After a long gestation, MuleSoft has kicked out an application integration software platform it calls Anypoint.

The suite, announced on Wednesday, sees enterprise service bus-specialist MuleSoft arming enterprises with tech that lets them deal with the cats-cradle of interdependencies created by sprawling IT estates.

Anypoint lets companies connect SaaS, mobile, and on-premise systems together through a set of interlocking technologies, including Apihub, Cloudhub, muleESB, Anypoint Service Registry, Anypoint API Manager, APIkit, Anypoint DataMapper, and Mule Studio. It also simplifies administration of these technologies via its various "hub" products.

"The Anypoint Platform is the complete platform for connecting any application, any data source, any device, and any API," MuleSoft cofounder Ross Mason told us.

Perhaps the most useful tech in the package is the Anypoint Service Registry, which helps broker connections among on-premise applications and apps and users coming from distant bit-barns and mobile devices.

The registry also links with the API Manager and APIKit to cut the time it takes for enterprises to develop APIs for their own in-house software that they may want to expose to a wider subset of their organization, or even to partners.

If that sounds to you a lot like giving firecrackers to kids, then you're not alone. But MuleSoft thinks its creation of tools for managing and tracking these APIs as they are used absolves it of any fault here, Mason told us.

Pricing for the Anypoint Service Registry starts at $12,000 for 10 enterprises services, 20 policies, and 20 contracts, and goes up from there. The Anypoint API Manager is in beta but will also be priced to a similar level according to usage.

Along with its Anypoint release, the company has also trousered $37m in a funding round led by New Enterprise Associates, along with a "strategic" investment from Salesforce, and other past investors. This takes the company's total funding to date to $81m.

Customers of MuleSoft technology include Amazon, Zynga, MasterCard, Xerox, Cisco, Starbucks, Honeywell, Walmart, Wells Fargo, and J.P. Morgan. ®
