Exchange admins rejoice: Microsoft has released the first big update for the 2013 version of the mail server and it's ready for you to download and install.

What could possibly go wrong?

Lots, actually, as Microsoft planned the release of “Exchange Server 2013 RTM Cumulative Update 1” for the first quarter of this year. By March 25th, however, Redmond reneged. Staff on the Exchange team may also be re-egging right about now, as CU1, to give the release its easier-to-remember name, emerged on April 2nd. Which may have made for a busier-than-hoped-for Easter for some Microserfs.

Those may look like missable enhancements, and indeed Microsoft says the update is "highly recommended" rather than a must-have. Redmond also says “CU1 is the minimum version of Exchange 2013 required for on-premises coexistence with supported legacy Exchange Server versions.” If that's your situation, the download is here. And we hope you don;t have to lose a weekend, too. ®
