Brit chanteuse Adele is poised to make her bid for Bond movie glory, as the clock counts down on the release of her theme for Skyfall.

At (naturally) 0:07 BST on Friday, 5 October, the world will find out just how Tottenham's finest measures up to Welsh warbler Shirley Bassey, she of the classic Goldfinger anthem.

Adele said of the Bond challenge: "I was a little hesitant at first to be involved with the theme song for Skyfall. There's a lot of instant spotlight and pressure when it comes to a Bond song."

She added: "It was a lot of fun writing to a brief, something I've never done, which made it exciting. When we recorded the strings it was one of the proudest moments of my life."

Adele's evidently stringtastic Skyfall is available for pre-order down at iTunes, where those of you with Apple's media bloatware installed can apparently get a preview.

The 23rd (official) Bond movie opens in UK cinemas on 26 October (9 November in US), a tad over 50 years since the London premiere of Dr No on 5 October 1962.

The word on the street is that El Reg is planning a bit of a Bondfest to celebrate half a century of celluloid 007, so watch this space. ®
