LG Display filed a retaliatory patent lawsuit against Samsung today over OLED tech used in Sammy's smartphones and tablets.

LG told a press conference that it was claiming that Sammy had infringed on seven of its display patents, just a few weeks after Samsung filed in Seoul claiming more or less the same thing about LG, the Korea Herald reported.

LG's suit seeks damages as well as the permanent bans in South Korea of the allegedly infringing devices, which would include Galaxy phones and tablets.

"The company filed a damage suit to protect its indigenous technologies that took an enormous amount of money and people to develop over a long period of time," an LG official said.

At the start of September, Samsung filed for an injunction against LG, alleging that the firm had attempted to steal Samsung's core OLED tech. The company submitted 21 relevant files covering around 18 confidential technologies, demanding a billion won in compensation for each time LG used the technologies or shared the information with a third party.

It alleges that LG uncovered Samsung's trade secrets by "forcing" one of its senior researchers to take a job there along with five other employees and pumping the info out of them.

Samsung today called LG's retaliatory suit "an attempt to overcome the negative image created by its systematic leak of Samsung's OLED technologies".

"The company will first carefully review LG's claims, but will not hesitate to take counter legal actions if necessary," Samsung said. ®
