Brocade's former $2bn sales boss joins Riverbed

Golden goose to flog WhiteWater, Steelhead kit

Brocade's recently departed worldwide sales boss Ian Whiting has popped up at Riverbed as its senior vice president for sales in the Americas region.

Riverbed sells Steelhead wide area network transit optimisation products as well as WhiteWater cloud storage gateway products. Whiting's job is to grow revenue and profitability, keep track of the rapidly changing enterprise and channel markets, spot areas for expansion, and be responsible for ensuring Riverbed is aligned with these markets. He will report to Dave Peranich, Riverbed's global field operations EVP.

Riverbed's announcement says Whiting "brings with him an impeccable reputation for building and motivating high-performance sales teams... [He] spent 11 years in sales and marketing at Brocade where he helped grow revenue to more than $2 billion and transform the company's go-to-market model from predominantly OEM and high touch end user sales to a blend of channel, service provider, direct and OEM."

It makes you wonder why Brocade let him go. ®
