Amplifier maker Vox has joined forces with Audio Technica to launch the amPhones, over-the-ear cans for the living-room guitarist.

AmPhones

The AmPhones feature a built-in power source, a 0.25in jack input for your six-string and a standard 3.5mm jack for your PMP. Various volume and tone controls can be found on side as well as chorus, delay and reverb settings.

Four models have been strung up.

The 'AC30' is said to reproduce the sound of the classic Vox AC30 amplifier. The 'Twin' has a cleaner sound, the 'Lead' tries to deliver a British crunch effect and the 'Bass' comes equipped with circuitry that attempts to simulate the resonance of a speaker cabinet. The latter also packs an additional compressor setting.

The AmPhones active guitar headphones are available soon for £100, a price that should resonate well for any audiophile axemen out there. For further details and samples of how the cans sound, check out the Vox website. ®
