Updated Motorola Mobility has introduced its first Intel-based smartphone: the Razr i.

In addition to the 2GHz Intel Atom Z2460 - based on the chip giant's single-core Medfield design; 2GHz is a peak, if-the-phone's-cold-enough burst speed - the i has a 4.3in (almost) edge-to-edge OLED display frame in aluminium and a Kevlar casing all wrapping in a water-resistant coating.

There's an 8Mp HDR camera on the back, and an NFC pick-up. Connectivity? A Micro USB port and the usual 3G HSPA+.

Inside sits a 2000mAh battery, good, the Google subsidiary claimed, for 20 hours' runtime.

It's slightly shorter but wider and thicker than the iPhone 5. But Motorola executives insisted it feels much the same in the hand - yet delivers a bigger display.

The i will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. There's no word yet on Jelly Bean updates. It'll go on sale here early next month in black, with a white version to follow if the UK is considered a "select market". ®

Update
Clove has just posted Sim-free pricing: it's £342.
