Keen on live theatre but unable to afford West End prices? Digital Theatre has the answer. It has recorded a number of productions and made them available online. Now they're coming to Samsung Smart TVs too.

DT's app goes live today, will be made available worldwide and runs on any Samsung Smart TV released after May 2010, though Samsung is promoting it alongside its 2012 Smart Interaction range.

It's not an entirely seamless set-up. While DT offers productions as both downloads and as rentals, but they have to be purchased at the DT website, which will then generate a code that has to be keyed into the app to permit playback.

The site can be used to generate playback codes for existing purchases if you've made any. Rentals last for 30 days, and you have 48 hours to finish watching one after you've started playback.

Mind you, with only 13 shows currently in DT's catalogue, it won't take the ardent theatre buff long to work through the list.

But there are some goodies among the available productions, which include David Morrissey in the Scottish play; David Tennant and Catherine Tate in Much Ado; David Suchet and Zoë Wanamaker in Arthur Miller's All My Sons; Amanda Drew, Toby Jones and Andrew Lincoln in Jez Butterworth's Parlour Song; the Stephen Sondheim musical Into the Woods; Abi Morgan's Lovesong; and more. ®
