Phone-y fashion outlets will hit China in 2014
Never a company to take its foot of the accelerator, Samsung has decided to follow-up its success as the leading smartphone vendor in the world’s largest mobile market by launching a range of fashion outlets in China.
The Korean giant’s 8ight Seconds clothing brand will enter the Chinese market in 2014, piggy backing on the success and brand recognition of its electronics products, according to China Daily.
Samsung is currently number one in the People’s Republic when it comes to smartphone shipments with a market share of 17 per cent, according to the latest stats from analyst Canalys.
<pSamsung's fashion sense remains untested as despite already operating 8ight Seconds stores inSouth Korea, it has not subjected itself to the glare of the fashion world elsewhere.
Let’s hope the rags on offer at said stores at least capture some of the verve and style of Apple’s gloriously technicoloured 1980s range The Apple Collection.
Although synonymous in the West with all things tech, Samsung Electronics’ parent company Samsung Group actually has its corporate fingers in all sorts of pies, contributing about 20 per cent of South Korea's GDP.
Samsung Heavy Industries is a shipbuilder extraordinaire, Cheil Worldwide a global marketing and comms company, and Samsung Life Insurance does what it says on the can.
The firm also owns Shilla Hotels and Resorts and even runs Samsung Everland, the oldest theme park in South Korea. ®
